John McCain Viet Nam Interview

As part of a French documentary taken from his time as a POW in North Vietnam, John McCain talks about being shot down and almost dying in hospital. The footage, from the 1960s, is courtesy of the French National Archive and has an English translation.

I don't agree with most of McCain's opinions on political issues but after seeing this interview I do have more respect for him as a person. He and all the other POWs of the Vietnam War went through a lot of suffering. Seeing him trying to hold back his emotions when he was talking about his family made me tear up. Everyone had their breaking point at the Hanoi Hilton, and most of the POWs there did give up information after constant torture that could have been fatal.
