I remember this episode yeah I cringe every time I hear his HORRIBLE Japanese he even had a strong accent on syllables that are in the English sound inventory I mean I could understand him having a hard time with r or the single n but wow

lmao so good! XD

No argument from me on the point you are making (though being a non Japanese speaker I enjoyed the scene by believing it.) The thing is though it's no different than cops on TV doing things wrong or my nurse mom watching things in hospitals and saying "You don't give that much of that med", "She wouldn't be elevated", or "He's tubed wrong"

@BloodyRainvV I honestly wouldn't try to learn Japanese by listening to this guy, since he's fucking terrible (although in my experience he's not that far off from most Americans trying to speak Japanese). My wife and I caught this episode on TV and almost died laughing at this part. I agree with Stei1124, it must be horrible to have to tell someone his Japanese is good after enduring however many takes of this. Why didn't they use the Japanese actors to coach him?

i totally want to know what he said. I am learning Japanese now for my second year in highschool and I kinda know what he is saying but I would LOVE some subtitles :)

Omg I laughed my ass off, ROFL.

I've watched enough anime to know that his pronunciation was hilariously off. xD

翻訳者の発音はほぼ完璧です。ほとんど。多分。
It's funny to see it all mispronounced, but he did pretty good considering he just learned the lines phonetically. Did you see Ryoko Hirosue's performance in Wasabi? Her French was fairly cringe-worthly too...
"It all started with 'yatta'" We've had 'yatta' in the UK for a long while now, but nothing's happened since then! :P

I actually totally agree with you, here. I know I chose an easy...target (bad pun). And you're right - Hirosue's French in Wasabi was cringe worthy. (I seem to remember a really poorly done bank action scene that knocked me over too with how lazy it came across.) I'm happy that you see the good in it!

I just realized something. I feel reeaaaaallllly bad for the Japanese actor... Having to say "あなたの日本語上手ですね。" to all that mispronounced crap must feel very indignant.

I dunno. Sometimes it is said as a compliment and sometimes it is said in a slightly dismissive fashion. Could go either way here. I like to imagine that it's sarcastic.
