  • There is a local fish store that I visit once a week and they have columbian sharks and they are in fresh water well i am thinking of buying two when I buy them should my tank be freshwater or brackish?? the columbian shark/ catfish are 4 inches long

  • @thetricksandtips You should start with freshwater, and once they feel comfortable in their new tank you could start adding salt to the water when you do water changes. Like dissolve the salt in water in a separate bucket. Never put salt straight in the tank.

  • hey do these guys need saltwater or is that a freshwater set up u got?thanks

  • @hitman7777777777 When they reach around 4-5 inches you should start adding salt. This is a brackish set up.

  • U making a liar out of me, I've raised These 4 over 20yrs, I know what They Get 2

  • @grandmistresserin226 You've been keeping them for over 20 years, so obviously you're over 20 years old. Yet your post looks like a middle-school kid just got a phone and is texting.

  • @thetricksandtips start with brackish water if not they get a really bad disease and their skin falls off. and a 55 gallon is huge you don't need something that big for a columbian shark. i started mine in a 10 gallon tank then upraded to a 30. and today upgraded to a 55. but if your starting at that size you should put community fish in their so it wont look so empty

  • @Nightmareee918 umm columbian sharks have to start with brackish water you can't have them in fresh water because they will get sick and their skin will fall off so never start them in fresh water. and you can pour the aquarium salt in the water directly with the fish in there its fine. ive had my sharks for 2 years take super good care of them they where my first fish.

  • @hgjfkdkds They do well, long as he fish arnt to small to fit in thier mouths right now im keeping mine with tiger barbs he should still be fine once the tigers are full gron but you need to just watch the size of thier tank mates

  • what are they like with other fish??

  • @Nightmareee918 Ok thank you for the help :)

  • could I keep one columbian shark in 55 gallon brackish water tank with no other fish or would it need a bigger tank?
