Yes, after 10 months, part 4 is finally here :) I'm trying to get this cabinet refinished right on the heels of the Philco 49-1040 before cold weather sets in.

  • Hi Bob.If you've not found a replacement for the safety Glass you may be able to go where they do Windshields & widows for older cars. They may know of a way of repairing the glass you have.Worth checking into if you haven't already.Best of luck. With respect....Tec

  • @tectalabyss Thanks for the tip. No I have not replaced it yet. I will be popping this set open sometime in the near future for a little makeover. The finish needs a little touchup, I want to do an alignment and install some new grille cloth. Perhaps I'll take care of the glass then too.

  • I say polish that brass. You're going thru the effort to make that cabinet look good, and it might look odd with dingy metal.

  • @batterymaker Yeah, I know what you mean. The logo should be no problem, but the control panel has a two-tone effect going on. I think they may have use some sort of toned lacquer on it.

  • That is how I restored my Adler-Royal 1930's Numechron Clock. I even made a video of it when it was done I was so proud of it. :)

  • @phantom3rdchannel Thanks. I'll send you a PM with my email address. A fellow collector just told me he recently scrapped a 810 chassis, but didn't save this part - argh !

  • @bandersentv yeah i think i already told you what happened with mine got it and jumped the gun recapped everything without service info and now it blows 5u4s. at this point all i have working is the audio amplifier. just need some time and a clean table to set down and look at all the wiring and see what i did wrong. least i learned never to dig too deep with out setting a starting point.

  • @bandersentv if you want i can take some pictures of my cage and send them to you it wouldn't be too hard to recreate with some sheet metal and greenlee punch (for the vent holes).

  • @bandersentv yeah the glue kinda sucks my plywood top also came delaminated ed split into 3 or so layers no water damage or warping just let loose.

  • @phantom3rdchannel I do some some caps that are really tucked in there, but I've seen a lot worse. They must have used some really crappy glue on that veneer. My grille cloth came off very easily too.
