I was at Cambridge folk festival when Nanci defected to Womad (watching Emmylou Harris) but fortunately Nanci honoured us there in 07, I absolutely love her music and character. Thanks for letting me see what I missed.
Our electricity was out for two weeks and all we had was my solar powered radio. I remember hearing some of the most heartbreaking stories on the local station. As hellish as the experience was for some, it gave me back my faith in humanity-beautiful people helping and loving one another. I thought of this song often. God bless you Nanci-you're an angel:'(

@currinara I sent an email praising Hooker's playing and he never bothered to reply.

Great song, love the Wille version. Too bad Nanci is a wornout old leftist. Her last album had a few great songs but was mostly socialist drivel.

After what?..20 years...James Hooker has retired from Nanci's band. Sad to see him go.

This is my all time favorite song. This version is great but Emmylou and Willie still push all my buttons.
