TDFM part 3.
Rewriting the theory of how feathers came to existence. Fascinating!
Only two more to go..

@falcoperegrinus82 But I see what you mean. I thought the same thing for a second lol. I was like... are they really going to call it a "theory" already without first doing some testings etc? But then I thought, that it was a previous hypothesis waiting for evidence against the other one to become theory. In the same way, if they found evidence against the new "theory" and no evidence against the previous "hypothesis", they would've promoted the previous to theory. Correct me if I'm wrong :/

@falcoperegrinus82 Well I guess it's a tough one here since they just eliminated the other "hypothesis-theory". When it was eliminated it upgraded the other hypothesis to theory status, since they don't have another lead on any other hypothesis, turning that "hypothesis" into a theory. I guess you can argue that a theory is the leading hypothesis. That one had predictions established so they're just going to test it out until they find another lead or find evidence against it. ;)

@0000000NoName0000000 and why is that? if you have proof than, instead of just calling it out, you should provide the proof. On a side note, horns are actually modified hair. It has been proven without doubt that some dinosaurs had feathers. AND, if you look at a bird's legs, bird's have scales. If you've seen that white fuzzy breed of chicken, they don't have the scales on their legs. Instead, the scales are feathers. They have feathers there instead, because of a small mutation in dna

Someone needs to explain to this narrator the difference between theory and hypothesis in the scientific context.

I wonder, if the tubular shape has a purpose. If the first shape of an early feather adopted was so such a simple, short round shape feather, it would mean the bird would need lots of this growing on its body to cover it and to provide insulation pretty much like fur/hair, however, this presents a problem; the bird could not release heat willingly, after all it is still cold-blooded hence the tubular hollow provides this remedy to releasing heat.

all bullshit , simplifying feather to be similar to scales in any way is bullshit !!,

Beautiful example of the role of fractal geometry in evolutionary development.
Layman's terms: It's a series of tubes!

Feathers would have kept them warm in cold regions. They probably evolved in dinosaurs from the polar regions just as mammals who live in cold regions are wooly and hairy.

0:42 What sort of snake is that? Such a nice colour!
So this is suggesting that feathers started out as simple quills, I wonder if this means any species adapted them into a means of defense?

From wikipedia: "Blue is caused by the ultrastructure of the scales. By itself, such a scale surface diffracts light and gives a blue hue, while, in combination with yellow from the inner skin it gives a beautiful iridescent green."
I can find images but can't identify the snake in the video - I'll have to look up from a proper source to see for species related info of snakes with bluish scales.

Thank you so much for uploading these. This one couldn't have been better-timed as I intend to use a bit of this footage in the video I'm doing right now, and I just got to that part!
