Waylon Jennings was Buddy Holly's Bass player, both Buddy and Waylon were inspired by the Mayfield Brothers of West Texas to go into music, and started up their band. Well, the Mayfield Brothers were inspired by Bill Munroe, and this is one of the extremely rare recordings of the songs the Mayfield brothers played with Bill Munroe.

Even at an advanced age, Bill still sent chills up my spine when he would sing. In his prime he was unbeatable. Barbara Striessand, Jocko, Don Ho, etc. - you never came close to having real soul. But Bill Monroe did!

Pretty cool having you name mentioned Evan! Thanks for posting. Bill is pretty much the only Bluegrass I listen to. Nothing beats an original!

I found this out by reading a book called Among the Enemy, a shadow child book. They used it as a code to hide from population police...very sad really.

Whippoorwill:
(Caprimulgus vociferus), nocturnal bird of North America belonging to the family Caprimulgidae (see caprimulgiform) and closely resembling the related common nightjar of Europe. It is named for its vigorous deliberate call (first and third syllables accented), which it may repeat 400 times without stopping.
I lost the spell-check key on the kybd.

Correct about Tex Logan's authorship of the greatest blue grass christmas song. Monroe recorded it twice!

The original version was recorded as a duet with Edd Mayfield on October 28th, 1951. It was released as the 'B' side on the 45RPM with 'Christmas Time's A'Coming'.
The recording session for these two songs was the only session where James Gar Bowers played banjo with the Blue Grass Boys.
One of Monroe's best sessions ever! Two excellent songs.
