Love this movie. It's a true education in capitalism. It's about the almighty dollar. Not about what America is worth as a country but what we can sell it for on paper!

It would be interesting to find a real life equivalent to "New England Wire and Cable" that made the very same "Peck's choice" back in the 90s (i.e. waiting for the storm to be over without investing in R&D) and see how they are doing in these days. Any idea?

Kodak company from EK to EKDKQ.PK

@suitmanjm yeah, funny story. Gordon Gekko, when acted out by Michael Douglas, was actually based on Oliver Stone. So all the wall street types imitating him, are actually impersonating a lefty filmmaker HA HA HA :)

Why is Lawrence Garfield in parenthesis instead of Danny Devito in the description? And why are there two "l's" in election?
-
@suitmanjm How about if you try doing something like that and I beat your ass black and blue so bad that not even if your mamma would recognize you the next time she saw you ugly face or what would be left of it after I got through with you trying do what you say you want to do to me in your post? How about that?

Saw this in Macroeconomics class. Awesome scene

Truth is both are right, the problem is. Danny DeVito is more right. Peck could have saved his company if he had invested in Fiber Optics instead of staying in the "buggie whip" industry...but he was stubborn and lacking vision and as a result Danny DeVito is needed to come in and liquidate the outdated company, so there can be a hope that something better will be built.

@suitmanjm: Sorry, but most likely those jobs were going to be lost anyway. And your analogy to "guys who kill people" is pathetic and an appalling ad hominem. You haven't presented any credible counter arguments.

@ suitmanjm: Whatever the intended point of the movie overall, the points made in Danny DeVito’s speech in this clip are sound and correct. I’m not sure what you mean by saying the business had a strong constitution, but the business was clearly dying, if not dead. Mitt would have potentially thrown the company a lifeline with no guarantee of success.
One of my favorite movies. "I'm not your best friend- I'm your only friend." That's what I used to tell my divorce clients.

@hotFusionReaction i watched this movie again yesterday. It's not just technical obsolecense,Pecks' character is really living in his own world. His lawyer gave him ALL the good advise to fight and defend his company but he refused because,in his eyes, that would be giving in to blackmail. He really loved paying the patriarch but forgot that that role calls to defend the family.Yen,dollar, infrastructure but not anything he could have done.Amen
