10/28/2009 (New York City) Today nine people were arrested outside of the corporate headquarters of Wellpoint, the largest provider of private health insurance to individuals in the country to protest their inordinate influence on the healthcare reform process. This is a part of a third wave of civil disobedience actions demanding Single-Payer Healthcare.Todays action was one of eleven taking place today. Eight more actions are expected to take place this week.
The first wave started in NYC on Sept. 28, when 17 were arrested at Aetna Healthcare. Days later six were arrested in Chicago. The second wave was October 15th when 14 were arrested at UnitedHealth Group in NY and activists sat in at health insurance companies in 9 cities the same day.
To date 883 people have signed up to do civil disobedience at mobilizeforhealthcare(dot)org.
It's a fundamental flaw in the American Political system, you'll always have these problems as long as it's this corrupt.
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, show him how to catch his own and he'll eat for life. The same holds true here, fix the system, don't force through healthcare. Do this and the rest will follow :)

I'll give first comment. Singer/songwriter activist. I did an act on stage wearing a fire hat. "I think I was wrong about single payer.... We should privatize police and fire... Ring Ring. Firechief, can I help you. Your hose is on fire, I need your fire insurance ID. What, no insurance? I'm sorry! I can't help you. Please look at the bright side; we have the world's best fire safety system. Have a good day."
