Watch closely. This crocodile in the Zoo's Reptile and Amphibian House usually loves the feel of the water on its back.

But something annoys it around the mid-point of the video and it snaps its jaws fiercely twice.

I love when I'm in the right place at the right time to record scenes like this!

  • no sound?

  • @mythplatypuspwned This video was one of the first videos I recorded. I recorded it with a digital camera that had video capability. Not very good video capability, though!

  • He's so long. And those jaws could snap someone in half, I bet. I haven't actually been at any zoo, not even this one, for a while. I never have seen sights like this in a while.

  • @IrishMusicIsAwesome It is wonderful to see sights like this in person, and to hear the sounds like the sound of a crocodile's jaw closing.

  • Great shot; I'm sorry that croc died :(

  • (continuation of my first reply) The Zoo has Nile crocodiles and so many other fascinating reptiles that most visitors don't seem to be noticing that the American crocodiles are no longer there.

But the Zoo staff, and frequent, regular visitors, notice and miss them very much.

  • He is truly a grand animal. I am sure he needed a lot of food to keep himself huge! I wonder what happened to him. He's no longer on the website list.

I think he should have some more space than that...I mean, maybe just some more would do him good, even if everyone thinks he's content. Of course, this is just an idea of mine. But maybe (if he's still around, I am not sure if he is) he needs/needed more space.

  • fell asleep!

  • yeah thats wat i thought

  • Yeah I agree, it's a real shame. I remember "Big Al" as I called him being there since I was a wee lad of 4 or 5 and will never forget them. Thanks to your video other people won't either :)

  • Thank you - every time I pass the crocodile exhibit, which now has become an extension of the American alligator exhibit, I think of all the times I was fascinated by the American crocodiles, especially during the simulated thunderstorms when they would move over, under, and around each other.

For so many years the Zoo had three crocodiles in that exhibit, then there were two, then one. And now, none.
