  • Hi

How is the BFO Kit connected, is it 2 core cable and how do you connect it to the radio ie connections.

    Hope you can help.

  • Hi, The little 455 kHz Hartley oscillator has an output connection and a ground connection. A single output wire from the output connection placed close to the antenna or an alligator clip to the whip antenna will work. I used a parallel conductor wire (transmission line) to connect the oscillator to the radio with a single alligator clip to the whip antenna, but the ground side of this line remains unused on this radio. (Ground could be connected to radio ground - experiment with that.)

  • Man, that's the smallest SSB receiving rig I have ever seen! I want one!

  • I have done this simply by using a second AM radio, a pocket transistor turned on but no volume. Careful tuning of the pocket rig will "beat" against the first receiver as it is tuned to a SSB or CW signal.... tricky but it works! This BFO is more exact as the output of the Ten Tec is not like the spurious oscillation of the pocket radio! 73 Rod KB8DNS

  • I'm going to order one so I can receive CW on an AM only receiver. I'm so glad there's a kit out there for this!

  • Nice, I am looking at adding a BFO to an old radio. I thought I would try old amateur radio handbooks, but I came across the link to yours.
