Is it really possible to get over 1,000 miles out of single tank of gas? If you are a hypermiler, you know this to be true. This week were doing something a little different here at GETV. Our new field contributor Scott Stead in Washington, DC, has been following the Ford 1000 Mile Challenge. Scott gets the lowdown on hypermiling from the original hypermiler himself Wayne Gerdes, and NASCAR racer Carl Edwards, who is no slacker for a challenge. Extreme gas mileage using some fairly ordinary driving optimization tricks is something we can all get behind.

  • I can go as far as I want without any fuel. Using an ancient technique of transportation called "walking". ;)

  • No usefull information what so ever. Waste of time for the green effort.

  • This vehicle has a gas tank that accepts 17.5 Gallons of Gasoline(Front Wheel Drive Model). At $4.oo dollars per US gallon- that's $70.oo US Dollars to fill up the Gasoline tank from Empty. The Ford Fussion Hybrid is rated at 41mpg Highway, and 36mpg city. To achieve 1000 Miles on 17.5 gallons of gasoline- The driver must average 57miles per gallon. Ford- rather than a bigger gas tank- why not more miles per gallon?

  • 35mph for 1000 miles.... extreme long endurance completely unattainable in real world, only a race driver could do this! I hope he was awarded with lots of groupies for this completely vacuous propaganda stunt.

  • @WorldWideRomance well u need food and water which costs you lol

  • I went 20 miles and used only a quart of water..on my bike.

  • @WorldWideRomance

so you can get from maine to the keys walking? good for you

  • @WorldWideRomance define fuel

  • @rhigginbotham89 I get about 550 miles for free, used veggie oil gotta love it.

  • @legendarysim hell just spend $2,500 on a 1980's Mercedes diesel, then you can use the rest to buy a few years worth of fuel to drive around with.

  • @funhatecrimes its not just the carbon footprint in the manufacturing process but the smelting of the nickel for the batteries out in California caused a 60% increase in the rate of lung disease of the area, including cancer. They raised to smoke stacks so the smoke would go somewhere else and "spread out" the disease basically to other areas, and the UN actually gave them an award for that for "improving the environment".

Its all political BS from elites to not only control, but make money
