Glassy water landings. You need a last point of reference (LVR) to judge your height above the water. Before you reach the LVR you need to establish the best rate of decent, air speed and attitude for your aircraft. Usually this is around 100 fpm and you'll hold that rate of decent and attitude until you touch the surface of the water.
It's never a good idea to try landing on a large surface of glassy water without first establishing the LVR as you could touch down sooner and at the wrong airspeed and attitude, this could cause you to bounce back into the air off the water and create a dangerous situation.
