Part I: The Dutch East India Company
The Dutch East Indies (Dutch: Nederlands-Indië; Indonesian: Hindia-Belanda) was a Dutch colony that became modern Indonesia following World War II. It was formed from the nationalised colonies of the Dutch East India Company, which came under the administration of the Netherlands government in 1800.

Very interesting. How did Indonesia become totally Muslim if it was colonised by the Dutch originally?

The Dutch colonizers used the principle of separation of church and state and wanted to remain neutral in religious matters. the official policy to Muslims in the exercise of their religious duties was to interfere as little as possible, but counter political manifestations of Islam.

The Dutch fleet was the largest of the world at the time and made the Dutch Republic a world power and colonial power, without the Navy there would not have been a Kingdom of the Netherlands. The flagship of the Republic, De Zeven Provinciën, was fitted with 96 guns. For comparison, the British HMS Victory, built more than a century later, had only 8 guns more. The naval history is/was enourmous inportant for the history of the Neterlands, that's what they are telling you in the Rijksmuseum.

I think from all the colonizers the Jvanese are much worse than the Dutch, During the second Javanese colonization of the Archipelago (1950-today) more people were slaughtered and raped and supressed then during the Dutch colonization. All colinizers are worse, but the assumption that the Dutch were one of the worst is based on... what?

Easy to say that in your 21st century context. And, no, compared to Spain, Portugal, England, France, Germany and Belgium..the Dutch were saints.

One thing that was not mentioned in this documentary was that the Dutch used the Japanese warriors to assassinate the Sultan of Ternate and its people in order to get a complete control of the spices (nutmeg, cloves).
