If you've ever come across my boss and good friend Tellman Knudson online or at an event then chances are he left an impression. What most people know him for online at least is his extensive catalogue of ListBuilding products and services, but what people don't realize is that one of the things he does "in the background" is what makes him so wealthy:
Affiliate Sales.
There are a ton of wealthy affiliate marketers on the block these days, but what I've noticed is that they all seem to have the same ideas about how you should go about becoming a wealthy affiliate marketer yourself. It usually boils down to running an adwords campaign.
I'm sorry, but that's risky, complicated, and a nasty can of worms that's more likely to make you broke than wealthy. Affiliate sales can happen anywhere, so paying for your affiliate traffic is just plain dumb unless you happen to be in the upper 1% of marketers who happen to know how to game the system in their favor.
I picked Tellman's brain about the best way he can think of to dominate the affiliate sales and become a truly wealthy affiliate marketer. If you know Tellman then you won't be surprised that the conversation we had lasted about thre hours and ranged in topics from Hot Sauce to Lutfisk (don't ask) to Steampunk startups on the west coast and finally back around to the meaning of being "wealthy."
Affiliates tend to make less money in general than marketers with their own products, by virtue of the fact that affiliates rely on commissions whereas when you're the product creator you keep all the money when you make a sale. So the question of what "wealthy" affiliates are was a good one.
But in the end, after all the philosophy and theory, we swung the conversation around to the heart of the matter:
I asked: "Tellman, You're wealthy.... affiliate sales seem to come easy to you - what's the most powerful way you ever made sales as an affiliate?"
He had a snappy answer:
"Teleseminars."
We talked for a while about the various ways a teleseminar can take you from ground zero, dead broke to a truly wealthy affiliate. And there are a ton of ways to crack this particular egg:
What worked for Tellman was a method that he eventually formalized as his "Perpetual Marketing Machine" strategy, which alone took him from in debt to the ranks of the wealthy affiliates in mere months.
Teleseminars can be set up for free, they can happen in less than a week, and in less than an hour you can make dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of high end sales.
But I could tell that the whole time, Tellman was bristling in discomfort about our conversation...
I had to ask him what he was holding back -and he said: "Well dude, if people want to go and become wealthy affiliates that's great, but no matter what you're doing online you're missing the boat in terms of long term profits if you're not building your list..."
I nodded in agreement. He continued: "All those Teleseminars I did, and all those sales I made that turned me into the "wealthy affiliate" I am today wouldn't have mattered if I hadn't been building my list at the same time. Dude, you can write about how I became a wealthy affiliate, but you'll be robbing people if you don't show them the video. You know which one I mean."
