Sources: Treaty of Lisbon and the Charter of Fundamental Rights. I'd gladly give specific references to anyone interested or suspicious.

  • "But the commissioners are appointed by national governments - one commissioner per member state."

Sorry, but this is wrong. The EU council appoints the head of the commission. He alone decides the members of the commmision, based on *suggestions* from member states. Also, the number of commissioners is reduced with the Lisbon Constitution, so not all states will have one.

And then there's the secret working groups that no one knows the details of...

  • Well, the "suggestions" are de facto appointments by member states. And following the 2008 referendum, the European Council pledged to keep the system where every member state has a commissioner.

The European Council is NOT the same as the EU Council.

The Treaty of Lisbon is strictly speaking not a constitution.

    NWO freak.

  • if these are suppost to be facts where do they mention these issues in the treaty?can you give page numbers?but oh wait...THE TREATY IS UNREADABLE!!!!!!!what a joke!anyone with a shred of sense would vote no again!and il repeat AGAIN.Cant u people take no for an answer

  • The Irish Parliament decided to have a new referendum. I'm not one of them, so don't refer to me as "u people".

I CAN give you page numbers if you're specific about what you want. But you haven't tried opening any Lisbon PDF. Not even a guide. You could read the new White Paper PDF.

Lisbon isn't more complex than Nice, Maastricht or Amsterdam were. It's long and intricate because that limits the manouvering space for interpretation by the EU court, and to fulfill all member states' needs.

  • It is so good to see some pro european videos on here, we need more of these if we are to reach into the young vote for LIsbon 2. I am Irish and while things maybe looking up, the last time the Yes side was also ahead and we saw what happened. Expect a pretty rough debate. So please more pro EU videos that highlight the facts and less of the ignorant left wing brigade that...finally Declan Ganley will come out of retirement for Lisbon 2! Do not be fooled!. We must vote Yes!

  • NO SIDE: Shinners, Ganley, Socialists, Coir, Eirigi, UKIP, Le Pen, BNP.

YES SIDE: all international chambers of commerce, most independent economists, 3 main political parties, IFA, IBEC, SIPTU, ICTU, most major trade unions, Pfizer, Ryanair, Intel, Microsoft.

    Who you going to trust?

  • The Lisbon Treaty is fantastic; it must now be put into practice.

  • The EU is a real benefit to the UK. 80% of our trade comes from Europe; to back out now would be to destroy our entire economy. Instead of walking away from the EU, we should embrace the Lisbon Treaty and work towards deeper integration with Europe. In the words of Winston Churchill, "we must build a kind of United States of Europe!"

  • I like the way this video is put together. A clever piece of work. In any event, the strong probability is that the Yes vote will triumph on October 2ns. Hopefully, we can then have a break from the rantings of Nigel Farage (at least until the European Parliament/Commission does something new to upset his sensitive little British soul).

  • dick roche you are ireland greatest hero

  • I don't mean to patronise you, but the European Commission is completely separate from national governments. But the commissioners are appointed by national governments - one commissioner per member state. The European Council (consisting of heads of member states), the EU Council (national ministers) and the Commission are three separate institutions.

I'm not familiar with that quote. If you need to work out how EU institutions work, please spend two minutes reading Wikipedia. That helps.
