exactly :) its a thing that cannot be explained but when you are selfless for the sake of someone else in need it brings this giant feeling of self satisfaction. and i've always believed :if it feels right and you feel good abou it, then its what you should be doing.

despite this universal feeling some people's calling REVOLVES around this feeling and it pushes them to feats of great nobility, people like mother teresa for instance.

  • And those times when one is the most free is when you let go of your ego and become part of something bigger, essentially self-less, and able to sympathize, connect, and understand the world around around us and enhanced be the simple desire to improve and contribute. Thats what gives us elation.

  • I think Simon has confused cause with effect. We feel good when we help people because were doing the right thing. Its better to be Selfless than Selfish; Its better to love than to hate; Its better to keep going than to give up. But we push ourselves because in the end we are all part of a collective.

  • @Wiggyify Yeah I agree with you; Poeple do good things becuase it give you satifaction and a sense of purpose. But why do we feel so happy helping other people; Even when it can be of a result of great personal sacrifice? I think its has a lot less to do with being selfish as it does with altruism and a sense of shared connections and values. When we help others we feel more whole; Less selfish and more alive. Like were working to better the whole and make a difference.

i actually believe humans do everything for themselves! if you think about it, every action you mentioned is done by a humans BECAUSE it brings something to THEM. charity brings satisfaction. friends bring support and goodwill makes the person feel worthwhile and a positive contribution to the world. if you didnt have a motive behind a certain action,if it didnt bring you a good feeling etc then you wont do it.

  • How do you wake up in the morning if you believe everyone is doing what they do for themselves? do you really believe that everything we do; all the charity, inspiration, friends, and good will is purely for ourselves, like complicated sex robots? We have no true friends or loved ones there just loving you for themselves?
