'Hero' dog accidentally euthanized

'Target', a dog praised as a hero for saving soldiers in Afghanistan from a suicide bomber, died Monday after an Animal Care & Control employee accidentally euthanized the wrong dog.

That worker should be FIRED, fined and ban from ever working in a shelter again. If that was my pet, I would lawyer up and sue. There should be NO kill shelters!!!

thats fucked up i would be pissed if it was my dog how does someone kill a dog by accident i think the fuck up just doesnt like dogs what a shame :( my condolences

@vuk96zj I strongly agree. Or if not euthanized, he/she should be tortured to death for killing a hero dog. Geez!!! I'm really so pissed off even if this news was almost 2 years old!

@zembowz ...Sorry that took three posts but the few times I've seen this happen, THAT'S how it happened. Sad but true, but it was probabsy just a paperwork error.

@zembowz Now lets say another employee gets a call from Targets' owner, does a more advanced search on the computer, finds Targets' REAL card and makes a note that Target will be reclaimed the next day, gives said note to yet ANOTHER employee to put on Targets' cage. The problem? This employee is looking for dog #304 while Target now has dog #225 on her cage and is being walked down to the one-way door.

@zembowz If two dogs look similar its easy to print out a card for them that's not actually theirs. So lets say Target was "Tan shep mix #304" and she eats her card off the cage. An employee not personally knowing that's Target searches in the computer for a "tan shep mix". There could be a dozen there. She picks out the best guess (with a different number than Targets' real one), hangs up the card and moves on.

@txhockeygirl3 I used to work at a shelter. It's rare, but it happens. When a dog comes into a shelter, its assigned a number which is put on a piece of paper and put on the cage door. Sometimes just the paper is clipped on by itself, sometimes with a clip board, sometimes with a plastic clear pocket. The dogs get board in the cages, even with toys and often those cards get chewed off.

im gonna beg my mom to let me adopt a dog. i wish i could adopt all of them, but i cant. i already have 3 puppies, including one i saved from an abusive home
