Tolkien's long story of Middle-Earth, Beleriand and Valinor just continuously moves from grief to grief like this though. Elrond came up in probably the very worst of times so you can't blame him for his pessimism.

"I've made my choice" says Arwen to Agent Smith.

Elrond is a bright ray of sunshine. Isnt he lol

@guiltycross yeah her mom was torutred by orcs and left long ago, but at the end she still goes there HOPING they are still there. But i think that legolas is the only one left.. he goes to helms deep to see the gittering caves were gimli lives and they go together to the undying lands.

@Krobra91 actually she knows that celebrian and galadriel have already left, her mother left even before sauron was defeated.
-
i love the close up shots of her crying

whats even sadder is that it comes true. arwen and aragorn have three children. and when he dies, she goes into the forest of lothlorian to live with her mother and grandmother, only to realize that they all left in the ships to valinor. She wonders the forest in dispair, eventually becoming known as an ghostly widowed queen.. truely sad.

What a horrific fate to face................ to be told by your own father than everything you love will fail miserably.
Elrond is a bit of a cunt imo !!

Fucking Ell. WHAT a scene.
Pure perfection. Hugo Weaving's finest moment ....surely ? Liv Tyler was superb also.

such was Tolkien.
"He will come to death, an image of the splendor of the kings of Men in glory undimmed before the breaking of the world. But you, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt, as nightfall in winter that comes without a star. Here you will dwell bound to your grief under the fading trees, until all the world is changed and the long years of your life are utterly spent."
Such beautiful words, haunting, yet beautiful. =)
