This is a step by step photographic record of my home built paramotor. I based the design (engine) on the very popular 'Bailey' paramotors. I started by aquiring two 125cc scooter engines, stripped them down and machined what was needed to convert them for use in a paramotor frame. this may sound easy but it actually took me quite a long time. The pulleys were off-the-shelf items but may need to be changed to get the required gear ratio's correct later on. The paramotor is using a 1.3m prop. The wiring harness was made utilizing the standard scooter loom.
I built the frame using aircraft grade aluminium.
Once the safety cage is finished i will try a thrust test to see if I will need to increase the 'cc' of the engine, Bailey started out using 125cc engines but soon realized they needed more power.
I'll keep you up-dated.

  • No worries, you can contact me any time. Have a look at my other video as this shows the Mk 2, a much simpler and more efficient use of a GY6 engine.

    Cheers, Steve.

  • The Gy6 engine has a massive range of after-market parts, that is the reason I based my project on it. Parts range frome big-bore kits, stroker cranks to fuel injection and even small turbo chargers!!! Nearly every Chinese 4st scooter has a GY6 copy powering it. Have a good look on E-bay, you might be suprised.

  • Hi Robin, to be honest it takes bloody ages to build something like this, but the way I look at it is Bailey want over £3000 for exactly what I have made for less than £500!

It may not be as pretty but who cares! I have just started on another engine to replace this one and hopefully now most of the R&D is done it should go a lot smoother. As for the reduction gearing, buy a set, it's the way I am going to do this one as I would like to use a serpentine belt in stead of 'V' belts and,,,,,,,,

  • @7275steve ,,,,,,when you take into consideration the time it takes to make these yourself it's just not worth it! Have a go I will always help out if I can. Look at some of my saved favourites the 'Yamaha four stroke paramotor' is a good one.

    Cheers, Steve.

  • Great skills and workmanship ..well done ..

  • Hi Steve, what changes you made on the engine? Or is it stock?

  • Thank you SO much for this ..I've been looking at the GY6 for the last couple of days and I figured it would be the best for a paramotor (especially the price and the performance upgrades) my only worry was modifying the case (like the long case 150cc GY6's). I am going to download your vid off of youtube and use it as a template..you saved me so much time. I may have to message you if I have any questions but I'm making this a 1 and a half year project so i might answer my own questions thnks!

  • cool

  • Very neat buildup sir ! This looks very promising, I am getting into a 4st project myself : 140cc dirt bike engine, fuel injected and supercharged to get 20-25 hp. I've been looking for the gy6 but it looked to have no upgrade parts and more limited availability in France. Give us some news !
