The coupling between the engine and the alternator was removed in one piece. For alignment of engine/alternator the coupling had to be disassembled and will require a good cleaning (we also didn't know what was inside the coupling!)
If I can align the alternator and the crank flange without disassembling the coupling, which I certainly can, why can't you? What is the answer to this wonderful question; "what was inside the coupling"?
