Crime And Punishment (1969) (English subtitles). Part 1/2.

A screen adaptation of the novel by the great Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky. The 19th-century Russia. A poor student, Rodion Raskolnikov, commits a crime which is inevitably followed by pangs of conscience: his soul, burdened by the sin of murder, is torn between faith and faithlessness, hope and despair. The investigation conducted by detective Porfiry Petrovich finally points to Raskolnikov. But before his meeting with the investigator, Rodion experiences a genuine love. This very love will help him repent. The life of the mysterious 19th-century St. Petersburg, the strong, controversial characters and an unexpected outcome hold the viewer in suspense up to the very end.

  • Thanks for this post, A TRUE JEWEL, GREAT ACTORS. Just like i pictured it in my head while reading the book. Just great. Love to all Dostoievsky's readers.

  • @antuerius I totally agree, I couldn't get passed it for more than 20 mins. For me the two things that "killed" it was the protagonist: much older than he should of bin and so obviously an obnoxius killer that it's hard to believe it took 300 something pages for him to "get caught" and give himself up- terrible acting..and the obnoxious camera work as you said. Other than that it might've had a decent chance but..still nothing compared to this one.

  • @Phersephoie Yes, I agree. I watched it yesterday almost abandoning it in the first fifteen minutes. It seemed and was; too fast, too spiked with strings, too English, and with so much camera jostling as an ersatz style that I remain impressed that the integrity of the literature withstood the cultural abuse. Definitely poor judgement or vain corruption where self-congratulatory acclaim is concerned. Neurotic England, at the Theatre. Bloody Shame for sure.

  • Thankyou for uploading this. The BBC "acclaimed" one is terrible. I'm sure the russian version is the best.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this! :)

  • Thank you so much for uploading this. I'm a huge fan of Dostoievsky's novels. My favourites are: Crime and Punishment and The Brothers Karamazov, although I enjoy very much his other writings. I consider him to be one of the best writers the world has ever had.
