In the space of just over a week, North Korea has exploded a nuclear bomb, fired six short-range missiles and prompted the U.S. and South Korea to raise their alert levels. And on Tuesday yet another surprise emerged from North Korea word of a possible successor to Kim Jung-il, North Koreas frail and reclusive leader.

South Koreas national intelligence service reports that Kim Jung-il has chosen his third son, Kim Jong-un.

John Park, a Senior Research Associate with the United States Institute of Peace, joins Martin Savidge to discuss the significance of the announcement, Kim Jong-uns attitude toward the West and regional tension over projected missile tests.

  • I wonder, if Kim Jong-un ever attended the international boarding school of Berne, Switzerland, then surely there also must be photos of him of that time. It would be very interesting if someone were to obtain and publish those photos!

    BTW, excellent report, thanks!

  • "chooses a new leader". No surprise that it's ......his..... SON. HA HA Whaddya expect from some country that outlaws free elections. I'm sure the people there are just thrilled to death.

  • I feel so sorry for the people of north Korea. There lives must be so bad under the leadership of these sick, moronic, selfish bastards.

  • @ec46201 Park is a Korean surname.

  • @EmperorAtahualpa Yeah. I like to imagine. Haha

  • @Caimingchang: I think you have too much imagination. :) And BTW, some photos have already been released since I posted that message.

  • @EmperorAtahualpa Obviously there are photos of him out there somewhere. But only thing is that nobody knew he was Kim Jong-Il's son. And now that everybody knows, nobody dares to share them as they fear of being killed by assasins!
