@ tomcat8492; It is called a foul deck emergency switch or wave off alerter. He watches the landing area and if he, or she sees anything that is wrong. flips the switch and waves off the jet. It is an absolute last resort, but if the jet lands and someone is dumb enough to cross the landing area as he does the pilot will not be able to see him because he is focused on the alert lights.

This video is not from 2007. After the 2005 Pesian Gulf cruise on the Nimitz, VFA-94 went expeditionary. Meaning that they deploy on a base and not on a ship anymore. There is a VFA-94 aircraft there at 3:57. I was on that last sea cruise with them. And they are right. Its cvn 68. Anyways, nice vid. Brings back a lot of memories. Thanks!
