As I sat here listening to the King Britt remix version and this original version, I noticed the contrasts in production and vocals.
One beautiful song, two divided moods and ranges.
I was going to only post the remix yet they are both deserving.
Sample this offering, then the remix and repeat.
Can you feel the difference?
Did you get a chill from this one whereas the other served more of a calming, chilled effect taking over?

-----------------

In a recent interview, Wendy & Lisa were asked about their processes in creating such inherently cinematic soundscapes (as they have been composing background music for television and film)...

Wendy:
It's trying to compose the song so that you can see it better in your head. Choosing specific notes to enhance a certain line that you're singing, or using a particular instrument that would evoke a visceral response from a listener.

Lisa:
When Wendy and I score, we aren't accompanying the lead singer. Instead, there are the actors and the narrative. You have to be invisible and only enhance what's there. So its kind of like drawing outlines and shadows on things that make it more three-dimensional.

[ Lyrics... ]

Til we meet again
Just say when
And I will hold my breath
Until then

I had just arrived in time
To see you leave
And here we go
Beginning at the end

So just say
Friend
And I will stop my heart
Until then

You had just arrived
To see me leave
And here we go
Beginning at the end

  • This is absolutely incredible. Soundtrack song for life for sure.

  • @debthemango

Soundtrack indeed. Thanks for giving it these 8+ minutes

  • This is amazing music! I enjoyed comparing the two songs and reading your notes. I like the KB remix but prefer this. It seems richer and more complex with transitions (4.14, example) and piano, voice, strings, etc, etc...beautiful work...Thank you, Intlwaters 5*++

  • Yesssss... That 4 minute mark begins another journey in the sound. It's as if in a film one person actually watching the love of his/her life walk away in preparation of the next chapter of said life. The triumphant climax at 5:34 of a new dawn... Inhale deeply ... Look to the heavens and smile as you knew - This day would soon come. Roll ending credits Screen goes Black at 8:35 Lights up as the theater empties out... Aaah... The way with words? Or a way with music.

  • 3:40 + - There's something about the bass counterpoint harmony, that connects with me so deeply inside my core, i cannot explain...

"Masterpiece".

  • Great song, Great people. Like Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, David Sylvian...

  • Beautiful... and then it turns into an ambient/alternative opus.

The 2nd bit sounds a little like Yes/Pink Floyd meets Radiohead....just brilliant!

  • simple music

  • haunting and mesmerizing at the same time. I would love to hear more keyboard arrangements from Lisa. This is one of those songs that stay etched in memory for a lifetime.

  • I'm so glad that l came across this vid. l thought W&L's self titled debut was a masterpiece and their 2nd offering was extremely catchy. l pretty much lost touch after that.

Thanx 4 posting this. l don't know how they do it, but somehow this song is sparse and complex at the same time.

    Gr8 song!
