In one life-changing week in Liberia and Sierra Leone International Rescue Committee donors Jennifer and Peter Buffett met former child soldiers, survivors of sexual violence and families driven from their homes by war. Jennifer and Peter learned how IRC staff are working to improve the lives of citizens and help them realize a more promising future.

Thanks to a partnership with the Buffetts' NoVo Foundation, the IRC looks forward to doing even more in the region. We invite you to take a video trip with Peter and Jennifer.

Diamond mines are child labor strongholds in war-ravaged Sierra Leone. Jennifer and Peter learn how the IRC is trying to help.

  • what so valuable about a diamond really...its just a piece of fuckin carbon mineral compressed over millions of years...its not a necessity so why is it soo valuable...if there was no food and water on earth...would you care about the value of a daimond then??

  • centuries ago they were bringing black people from africa here and turning them into slaves.

today they go over to africa and turn black people into slaves in their own land, in the middle of their own country.

whats the human civilization coming to?

and then they say that america went into iraq to bring democracy and freedom. i bet these diamond miners would love some freedom right now more than any one else in the world

  • justice will come soon

  • Africa should be rich.......

  • @biGpoppapimp1 Why is gold valuable then? Answer that and you'll answer your own question. Diamonds are rare, take -- as you said yourself -- millions of years to create, and lets face it, they're pretty. If diamonds could be found in your backyard then sure, they would have little to now value, but the fact that they take so long to just find a few is what makes them so wanted and valuable. It's human nature to strive to be better than the guy beside you, even if you have to have a diamond.

  • Exactly, they bring thier stupid thoughts, thier stupid way of living, stupid education, stupid religion and stupid way of learning and speaking to these

Africans "Israelites," and they just ruin everything! Why can't why people just not even go over there?

Don't you have the rest of the world? Leave us alone!

  • @biGpoppapimp1 yes they are shiny

  • Have you noticed that there are people looking for ways to look at the world like there are victims everywhere?

  • @lilblackfish2009

it just sucks that certain groups of people are able to corner the market and manipulate it when they want
