Born Francesco Paolo LoVecchio in Chicago, we all knew him as Frankie Laine, and he made his first mark with a recording of "That's My Desire" in 1946. Later, Frankie would record many songs that were "western-themed" including his unforgettable rendition of "Rawhide" for the hit tv series. Working on that theme, "Moonlight Gambler" went to #3 in December of 1956.

  • I love this song and i'm 16 (:

But seriously....what is going on with the girl's foot at 0:46?

  • @szatter123 LOL, look very closely and you will see that both her feet are crisscrossed in the photo, not one elongated foot...thanks for your comments...Lanny (Nocaro)

  • Great old song... and put to a wonderful, video! GOOD JOB!!!! Thumbs up!

  • that's not my version

  • My first 78 record back in 1956..

  • Spot on kpls72 - this is a much later take of the song. Problem with artists like Frankie is that, because they had such long careers, they changed recording companies a few times and had to re-record their classics because their previous labels owned the rights to the originals. This is still quite a decent version though.

  • this is on one of mom's lps from the old columbia record club. brings back a lot of memories.

  • @kpls72 Absolutely true. The same goes for Laine's 1956/7 version of "That Lucky Old Sun," which the 1949 version (although good) cannot compare to. As good a number 1 song as there will ever be.

  • I heard this done by a man called Rusty Draper and it sounds almost like Frankie
