May 1, 2008: The winds are fierce at this red-tailed hawk nest in Tulsa. The chick needs to stretch and exercise his wings to prepare for fledging (his first flight). Will he be able to do that under these conditions? Will he be able to fledge, or will the harsh winds blow him into a building?

  • If I find another dying bird, I will message you. If I do, PLZ message me back quickly so I know how to save it. Thanks.

  • If you find an injured bird, you should take it to the nearest wildlife center or veterinarian. In the meantime, you can put a small towel in the bottom of a box and gently place the bird on the towel. Then cover the box with a sheet or another towel. It is essential that the bird be kept warm. Do not feed the bird or give it water. Take it to the wildlife center or vet ASAP, please.

  • I really do hope the wind calms down.

  • Ok. Got it. IF it is at night, I will contact you with condition I found it in, type of bird, heartrate (if I can tell), and info like that.

  • I sure do hope the winds calm soon. That's a bit much for a fledgeling to take on.

  • I am going to be doing some bird bandings in a week and maybe a Kestrel box check this saturday!
