The interviewer asked reasonable questions. What I resent about the avant-garde (Pat in this interview, for example) is its utter lack of accountability -- the minute someone asks common sense questions of the methodology or justification for their work, or simply how it works, the "artist" becomes violently hostile, condescending and nasty. If you go see this show and think, "man, this is kind of jive," you're the one with the problem. Quite the trick: if they hate my music, it's their fault!
Pat is back and on the attack! This time he is armed with robots!! Have we seen the evolution of a megalomania in Pats career? This will go over very well in Japan!!! It's all about control baby!! Ground control to major Tom
The interviewer basically asked Pat if the different mechanical instruments were being controlled by him (probably wondering if it's note for note) or were they responding to a prerecorded pattern? Pat didn't really answer him very clearly. Maybe Pat doesn't want to reveal the exact way it works. During the concert it sounded as if the machines were playing a set piece of music with Pat playing along. I'm curious myself about the level of interaction between Pat and the Orchestrion.
If he wants people to be not afraid of it anymore, he should explain how interaction with that group works. I only know that a vibes sometimes plays the same thing he does because it is triggered via midi.

Why was Pat Metheny just likened to an Elvis impersonator? The latter isn't exactly a "pioneer" quite like the former.
