What could be more fun than eating clean, white, soft snow gathered in our own yard? Snow ice cream is safe (if you make it the right way) and this video includes an easy recipe. Tammy Roberts, a nutrition and health education specialist with University of Missouri Extension, says the key is treating it like other desserts and eating it in moderation.

  • Just to clarify for this last poster, it is the use of raw eggs in snow ice cream recipes that has the potential to make people sick.

  • I was raised on a farm in Southern Illinois and I have eaten lots and lots of snow ice cream. Mom always made it by the recipe you listed in your article. In more recent years I have added instant pudding to my recipe. Chocolate instant pudding could be used but vanilla instant is always are favorite.

  • No. It will keep but it will be nothing like store ice cream. Gets ice crystals on it quickly ... and although it is okay after being in the freezer it is really best when eaten fresh. That is when it is most like fresh homemade ice cream. Enjoy.

  • just so you know, I just take snow off the top, as long as it's not yellow it should be fine, I just dump in a bit of sugar, snow ice cream does't neccisarily need measurements unless you eat it often, I just eat it a few times when it snows, or whenver i have time and fill my share and eat it, I have not gotten sick from it yet, so I give this review 2 thumb down :D

  • never eat yellow snow lol

  • i love love love this recipe.

it taste just like the best homemade ice cream!

but all though i used heavy cream instead of half and half.

I think it works better, and i took a little bit of the snow away. and just divided it if i needed it., but i ended up not using all 1 gallon of the snow.
