Making DIY gourmet mushrooms at home is difficult: you must buy a bale of hay, and must innoculate some sterile grain as "spawn." That, or buy a "grow block" from a supplier. Instead, what if we use catalogs and old phone books as the growth medium? Don't throw out those Mouser and Digikey electronics catalogs, instead turn them into mushrooms. Pleurotus ostreatus (oyster mushrooms) is an easy one.

Ultrasonic mayhem II: the underwater heat beam, focused ultrasound, melting holes in plastic spoons and yoghurt cups, standing waves w/cavitation. Perhaps worse than microwave ovens: ULTRASONIC HUMIDIFIERS. Don't stick your finger in there, you'll be sorry.

  • Will you ever start posting videos regularly again.

  • @TheLordBarker Yes, like clockwork every two years.

Actually, see future plans list here: bit.ly / drVTtw

  • WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL THIS TIME! I MISSED YOU. T_T

  • @Fileffel internet attempts a splashing with fame, and preventative countermoves only partially effective are exceuted in response! But now curiousity increases.

Simple experiment: cease for a year and observe results. Behind the dam, how large have built up societal forces? A resevoir, a variant on the fannish liquid "Egoboo." L. Ron Hubbard performed such tests without precaution. Calamatous results. Sometimes one falls off the cliff. Sometimes is triggered mankind interstellar expansion.

  • Wow i just saw you on the history channel. I couldn't believe myself when i recognized you.

How exactly did they find you?

  • Great Vidi....i had a thought some time ago that getting hold of old telephone directory & rather than building bail ( or is that bale buildings ) building telephone directory buildings. Bit of lime render and there you have it. a nice solid building, may be you'd have to use wall paper paste to ensure that it did not slip....but if Cal can code bail buildings ......

  • Make a follow-up video please! Or maybe any other experiments you have going on.

  • @wbeaty Its great to have you back especially for the ones among us that have been following you since the begging!

  • I have a ton of phone books it's worth a try just for fun my neighbors will love me :)

  • This actually works. Oyester mushrooms can and have been grown off phone directories. As long as you make sure its a thin un-bleached paper it should work. You SHOULD make a spawn. Just throwing a phone book in a bag will likely result in contaminations. The process described will only pasturize. Spores will find it difficult to gain footing before any contaminations.
