HAGRID MANAGES TO AVOID THEM BUT HE GETS STUNNED. AS HARRY IS TRYING TO GET THEM TO SAFETY HEDWIG COMES TO HARRY'S AID AND SHE IS KILLED. THE DEATH EATERS REALIZE THAT THIS IS THE REAL HARRY POTTER. THEN LORD VOLDEMORT HIMSELF SHOWS UP. BECAUSE HIS SCAR IS HURTING SO MUCH HE IS DEFENSELESS. BUT HIS WAND ACTS OF ITS OWN ACCORD AND FINDS VOLDEMORT AND IT IS ABLE TO KEEP HARRY FROM BEING KILLED.

@Sham624 in the book dumbledore said that a piece of voldemort's soul was transferred to harry's wand after he and voldemort battled in the graveyard so the in this scene the piece of his soul in harry wand was able to find voldemort and shoot a bit of voldemort's magic at him

1: The curse was meant for Harry not Hedwig,Hedwig sacrificed herself to save him from the curse.

2: Yes he would he just wouldn't go so far as to hinder him in the fight against Voldemort. Its not like he was a fairy godmother for him.
