Mongolia Part IV: Tenger Ayalguu Music performance (Part IX)

The instrument shown off in this video is the morin khuur, a horse-head fiddle. It's a 2-stringed bowed instrument with strings made from horse tail hair, and the head is usually sculpted to look like a horse's head, hence the name.

When we were in the South Gobi, we saw a Mongolian music group. After having seen the performance, we decided to try and work towards bringing them over to the UK for a couple of weeks next summer so that their talents and Mongolia are better appreciated. More details about this will come soon.

I can surely say that I have never seen a performance like this before. I was able to find the best HD quality youtube live music videos by searching (live events themusicage) on Google.

Um, it sounds like European classical music played on traditional Mongolian instruments. Very nice, but not traditional Mongolian.
