RY THE COODER IS THE GREATEST ARTIST THAT EVER DID LIVE. TOO MANY GREAT RECORDINGS TO DENY THIS. HUMBLE AND GIGANTIC. THOSE WHO KNOW, KNOW I SPEAK THE TRUTH. HIS MUSIC IS TRUTH.

Ry is a great performer, and interpreter of music from a wide variety of genre's, he is instantly recognisable, this is what makes the greats great. Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Elvis, Neil Young, Joni Mitchel, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Nora Jones, Chris Rea, to mention but a few, keeping it real !

@MrDaisydooker The blues ain't polished. The greatest and most memorable voices that sang the blues were often rough, ragged, off key. I agree he is not a great singer, but neither was Jimi, or Howlin Wolf, or Son House. Anything else accompanying would take away from the raw earthiness of this kind of folk music.
Besides, it's a song about Billy the Kid. He was a ragtag, live in your boots outlaw. I suspect he would have liked the way Mr. Cooder sings it.

every time i hear this song i forget that it's not straight out of 1800's. ry's voice isn't even that good but somehow...it's so good!

After discovering Ry, everything except guitar looks pointless...
If Beethoven played the blues, he’d sound like Ry Cooder! These solo performances are masterworks. The rhythms of the mandolin accompaniment are composed to fit every nuance of Ry’s original vocal melody. Rhythmically, there’s something of interest happening in every phrase and the song is propelled forward in a wonderful way because of it. I like his solo performances the best because you can really hear everything that he’s playing. And it’s a lot!
Thanks for posting this!

Ry Cooder's slide guitar wizardry still keeps me tingling every time I hear ol' Ry tickle the strings. He keeps that traditional slide work alive...for all of us to enjoy. Thanks for posting this great tune.
