Phoenix is the transition from a reverse grab spin to twisted grip lift without touching the floor. I was just telling the gals the other day that it would be a long, long time before I pinned the Phoenix. Then I watched Oona's video again and got a clue about the technique involved and then performed this move myself. In a state of disbelief, I posted this video to StudioVeena first, looking for confirmation that this was, in fact, the Phoenix and that it actually happened.

Interestingly, I found this move a little easier than the regular twisted lift. I think this has more to do with technique than pushing or pulling with brute force.

  • wow fabulous!!! love ur hang bk too - very flexy! any tips on phoenix ? ;) or prep work?? lol anythiiiiiiiiin i so want this move ---- now!!!!

  • @poletasticminx Hi, Minx. If you can already perform a stalled twisted grip lift, then the only challenge left for you is to find the right placement for your reverse grab spin. For performing Phoenix, you'll have to let your head and the shoulder of your free arm pass the pole before placing the lower bracket, and keep the fingers turned down instead of wrapped. If you cannot do the stalled lift yet, then train for it by doing twisted grip from inverts and controlling a slow descent.

  • I am now your number 1 fan - after thinking i would never get this - watched you and got it on my 3rd attempt! HOOOOOOOOOORAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!

  • @tardissarah That is great news! Congratulations!

  • StellarMotion, I'm extremely jealous that you've nailed the Phoenix and I'm still working on it. It just seems like it would be as easy to learn as the handspring was but I have difficulty lifting myself up. You need to fly out here and teach a workshop!

  • @ginalovespoletricks thanks! What a nice remark! I'd love to travel to teach workshops, but I don't really have a high enough profile to be invited by pole studios to give instruction. Maybe someday my skills will improve and my profile along with it and then studios will want to have me come teach! I'm hoping so.
