The song is from Delilah's perspective. She says in the beginning..."beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth". So she's saying she really was in love with him. Which the story obviously doesn't say. It's kind of like this song is her apology.

The reference to 'Samson' is symbolic. It's a song where the singer/subject is reflecting on the decline of the passion and strength of her partner. As time passes men lose their youthful vigor and power. What once drew her to him has faded, and yet the love persists. Not love of biblical proportions (hence the reference to the bible) but a more sedate and meaningful love. But there is still a hint of lament for the strength that has passed. .

to me, this is delilah, in love and scared of the threats from her people, yeilding to her fears, instead of trusting the( almost) strongest man there ever was. This speaks to me of Samson's comfort as their hearts were breaking to wait for the consequences of her tragic choice to betray the one she loved.
