A series of impressions of a turnaround of USS Constitution effected around 0830 to 0940 on the cold morning of February 18, 2010. Unlike most turnaround cruises, this was rather utilitarian and intended to allow workers who are presently restoring the ship to see her port flank from their best dockside working positions. The ship had been docked bow-on, and after this turnaround she was stern-on and bow to sea. Two harbor tugs were on hand to draw Constitution from her berth and a very small pusher boat swung Old Ironsides around. The ship's present condition reflects her mid-restoration status: yards landed and topmasts off or stepped.
After the crushing defeats of H.M.S Guerriere and H.M.S Java, the Royal Navy decreed that none of His Royal Majesties frigates should engage any United States heavy cruiser “Constitution Class” one on one. The title “cruiser” given by His Majesties Navy along with the engagement order were the first of there kind in its history.
