( http://heritage-key.com/blogs/mary-ann-craig/britains-prehistoric-funerals-si... ) Mary-Ann Craig talks to Jon about the history behind the Solstice at Stonehenge and other sites, including Newgrange in Ireland, Maeshowe in Orkney and Irthlingborough in Northamptonshire. She discusses the finds from excavations at Irthlingborough, including a lattice of cattle bones which had formed a lacework around the mound, and also goes into detail about the life of the legendary Amesbury Archer - who he was, the stature he held and why he wasn't the all action hero he was made out to be.
Sorry Mary-Ann not quite right!
Stonehenge was an excarnation site (see Q and R holes) orientated to the moon not midsummer sunrise (that was at a later date when they built the Sarsen stones) and your dates are all over the place - sorry!!

SH is a burial ground, like a lot of prehistoric monuments. It's also much more. After it fell out of use it's been used as a tourist draw, like it or not. People will never stop asking questions. In order to find out it's necessary to enquire. A lot has already been dug. What hasn't been told is about the people. Who were they, what made them tick, what did they believe? To answer that you need to look at DNA. As long as exhumation is done with respect, then in answer to your question - yes!
