Information on the oddest Joints inf the human body.

This is also what I suffer from. I live at a level 8 out of 10 on my good days. Today is about a 9.

I'm left with SI Joint Fusion w/ bone graft surgery as my last medical option... Which I refuse to risk. It is way to risky.

SI Fusion is very high risk, and offers a small chance at resolution. Only a few I mean maybe 3 to 5 places in the US maybe the world provide this treatment. WHY IS THIS?

About 85% of people who have it report more pain after. 99.99% of the time due to TIME alone as we age the fusion will fail. The pins/screws will bend and or break.

In order to create BONE to BONE contact the amazingly protective cartlidge over the SI Joint surface must be removed.

This can never be replaced and or made to regrow. As many people find out only after having the surgery reversed.

COST for the Surgery is about $20 to $30 thousand not including cost of Consults, tests, xrays, and airfair and lodging to stay near the treatment center.

For most people these places will be out of their medical insurance area of coverage. So check into what they will or won't cover before making your first appointment.

Lastly even if 100% of the fusion takes and the bone graft fro mthe good side goes as planned. The good SI Joint if both are not bad will eventually fail.

While 2 to 4mm is an amazingly tiny amount of movement compared to how big we are... That little movement is in place for a reason.

If the pain you feel is being supplied by nerves from your ANTERIOR or front side... Then all the fusion in the world will do little to provide help.

Medical science as of yet can't safely enough access the SI Joint from the front. And, this is why it's only accessed from the Posterior side of us.

I'm not saying the Surgery is not for you. You might be one of the 15% or less that it actually helps.

You might be one of the 1% that it will not fail on in time. Maybe you will never fall as you age, maybe your bones won't get brittle and thin a little as time goes on...

So it can in fact HELP people. But, before jumping in please ask your DR or Doctors as I did... What do you think of this treatment for me?

If they say don't do it. Ask them why they say not to do it. Ask what are the risks involved, what are the statistics on it helping people...

ASK all sorts of questions.

Nothing is 100% going to work. That includes doing NOTHING at all.

So be the most informed Patient you can, and always INCLUDE your Doctors in ALL information you learn about. ONLINE and OFFLINE, Never assume any one opinion is the end all solution.

And, YES I want to ALARM you to the possible... Yes, POSSIBLE risks involved with mainly the SI Joint Surgery.

But, I had the very safe RFA done and am one of either 5% or 2% depending on the odds you want to use... Where I could be left worse than before I had it done.

So, YES you will have risks. KNOW THEM up front. Because YOU and ONLY YOU will be making the CHOICE to have anything done to you.

It is NOT the Dr's fualt if they do what they are trained to do best. That is help people as best as they can.

Guess what sometimes it just doesn't go as planned. THAT IS HOW LIFE WORKS.

It sucks, it's NOT fair, and it for sure BITES the big one when it's you left in pain or worse.

I know this first hand myself.

  • Sadly many doctors who perform RF procedures are not properly trained, are not aware of the serious risks of permanent damage of doing RF on the SI joint areas. I realize I am posting lots of comments and I'm sorry, but I've been in your shoes and like your video is to educate people, I wish to do the same by providing my experiences and what I've learned with injections and RF to my SI joint. Please do not take my comments personally, I think your video & the info you provide is GREAT!

  • When the RF needles are placed, it is best for the patient to be no more than mildly sedated. The reason being is if the needle is in the wrong place the patient will get symptoms in their leg, sciatica. If this happens the needle MUST be moved. If the RF is done when pt. is feeling sciatica, then they are burning a mobility nerve which can cause permanent irreversible nerve damage.

  • RF should not be done on the major nerves (In your pictures the thick yellow one) as they are mobility nerves. The RF should only be done on the nerves in the middle, think of a sandwich. Your skin nerves (1 piece of bread), middle nerves (insides of sandwich) and mobility nerves (ones closest to the bones) other piece of bread. RF should only go for those middle nerves. But RF in the SI area is dangerous because of the large mobility nerve that runs through the pelvis at the joint.

  • Be very careful with radio frequency ablation of the SI joint itself as, over time, it can cause damage to the sciatic nerve that goes through the pelvis (it has another name but I can't recall it right now) and if it is damaged with RF you can become incontinent both bladder and/or bowel.

  • Thank you for putting up this video. So many people, doctors included, do not know about the sacroiliac joints. I live with a broken SI joint on the left side, which has left me in constant pain. Surgeons attempted 2 fusions and both failed, leaving me with a permanent compound fracture of the left SI joint, with instability and arthritis in the right side joint. I hope your doctors are treating your pain effectively!

  • So sorry that this has happen to you. I hope the Lord will heal your pain. Before seeing your video, I was seriously considering this procedure as nothing else has worked... rest, pt, si joint injections epidurals etc. Thanks for posting as I now know ignorance is not so bliss.

  • Hey, I understand sijd Really ruined your life, but I think you should try sij fusion or fixation still, even if they fried your nerves it's possible it can regrow back once you fix the source of the problem. Im also suffering from this disaster, And you know once they corrected my joint my pain gradually reduced

  • SpinergyDude: I hope you are better now than you were when you made this video! Thanks for taking the time to share. Lots of us with SIJD are on a Facebook group called: SACRO-ILIAC JOINT SYNDROME / SI JOINT DYSFUNCTION - SIJD

  • This made me cry.... You have alot more faith than I do. And my si is only sprained.

  • hi there!

i really do feel your pain! hope you get some relief soon! people dont realise how disabling this can be, i couldnt put on socks or underwear or anything like that. off my crutches now... hope you get some relief soon.
