  • I remember working in a shop where in 10 years the only time the AS400 went down was by operator error or deliberate IPL (reboot for you younger folks).

  • Don't need spectacular hardware to do this. I had an old junker 486 SLC system running Netware 3 that got lost in a retail furniture shop for 4 years. No maintenance, nothing, just kept working. The new owners tracked me down and asked where the hell it was, so I called in and showed them. The room it was in had become a storeroom and it took about 3 hours to empty it out sufficiently to get the the old clunker server. For those in the know - Freedom & Cooks. :)

  • Obviously that box was made back in the day when manufacturers made quality components. They certainly don't make them like they used to. What a great IBM advertisement!
