Based on a true story. Its Canada 1931 and trapper Albert Johnson (Charles Bronson) lives for himself in the ice-cold mountains near the Yukon river. During a visit in the town he witnesses a brutal dog-fight. He interrupts the game and buys one of the dogs - almost dead already - for $200 against the owner's will. When the owner Hasel (Ed Lauter) complains to Mountie Sergeant Millen (Lee Marvin), he refuses to take action. But then the loathing breeder and his redneck friends goes to Albert and try to get the dog back by force, decimated they return back to town and now accuse Johnson of murder. So Millen, although sympathetic, has to try to take him under arrest - but Johnson defends his freedom in every way possible. It soon becomes not a man hunt but a death hunt as the search and kill party is enforced with trappers...tromping through the icy cold Canadian mountains. Millen doesn't want Johnson to reach Alaska and out of his jurisdiction. Will Johnson make it?

  • this was released just before the film Rambo, interesting

  • @cliffworks4321

Interesting indeed! Another well made man hunt film named Ruckus was also released in 1981.

  • must've been manhunting years, will look for Ruckus tks

  • @cliffworks4321

Also interestingly enough, Ruckus is about a Vietnam veteran that get bullied when he return and end up in some small redneck town! (Not VERY MUCH like First Blood, eh?)

  • @cliffworks4321 The book 'First Blood' was earlier. Read it. Its so much better that the movie.

  • @BugCombat

Yeah, the book First Blood was from 1972, I think. I read that in the book Rambo kills everybody and that Rambo dies in the end. A film script was around from 1975 but no film studio wanted to have anything to do with it. But when Death Hunt and Ruckus become money makers they quickly rewrote and softened the script and that film is First Blood.

  • You based very loosely on a true story.

  • @MrTracythomas1 Oh...I thought it was widely available, since I actually found this pretty cheap here in Sweden. If you don´t live in Sweden, maybe you can import a copy of it! It´s a pretty good print in its original aspectratio.

  • I remember my great grandfather talking about this. he was an RCMP. true story
