Former minister for New Labour and veteran left-winger Tony Benn shares a platform with David Davis to discuss and debate their views on civil liberties and fundamental British freedoms. Boosted sound quality in general, still a lot of background noise so my apologies

  • Why have you described Benn as a former minister for New Labour? He hates new labour! He owns a mug saying "old labour and prowd!" Get it right....

  • David Davis and Tony Benn, both men have a tremendous amount of integrity which is sadly lacking in modern politics.

  • David Davis what a pompous opportunist, who just wants the camera's on his face 24/7.

  • @deadrebel2 You clown...

  • @rodjames98

Just yesterday, the Nu-Labourite ID card system and integrated database was scrapped. A new bill on libel law is going to go through parliament. Detention is set to go back to its old level once the legistlation expires. I'd say a lot has changed and we're less than a month into the life of this government.

  • just wanted to make a slight correction, you seem to have confused 'Labour' and 'New Labour' in your description ("Former minister for New Labour). Labour rebranded itself as New Labour under Tony Blair, part of his reforms that saw the party move towards the center-right. Tony Benn was a former minister, but did not serve in the cabinet during the New Labour era (although he did remain MP for Chesterfield until his retirement in 2001) You were however correct that he his a 'veteran left winger'

  • So does david davies think that when his former tory party take over the running of this country from the present lot that cameron is going to turn his back on the big brother state? bullshit, nothing will change its the same agenda whoever is in power.

  • Your dad would ave been better off as a wanker then have you.... but shit happens ... everywhere....in your case ... wank shit.

  • cont/ carried out upon the executioner, and then the families of that executioner would want the same act of ultimate revenge carried out on the next person and so on and so on.

If someone murdered a person dear to me I am sure I would feel like the murderer should suffer, that is part of human nature, but it is also part of human nature to attempt to not be slave to all of our basest animal instincts.

reason not emotion is called for at times

in 21st century we need to learn reason

  • in regards to the death penalty debate below I think J R Tolkien had it right when he wrote "many who live deserve death, and many who die deserve life, can you give it to them? no, then do not be too quick to deal out death as judgement."

capital punishment just continues the circle of death and revenge, it is purely an emotional reponse to a situation, it has no basis in REASON, should the innocent families of an executed person have the same right to see ultimate justice ..............

  • David davis is a wanker.

  • based on what?
