@bouwmr The reason you can't like him is because he is current and there is a tendency for some people to just look back at artists from the past with rose tinted specs. You will like him one day, or maybe sooner if you dig our way past the bullshit you have let affect you. Bottom line is that Mayer is seriously talented musician who feels it as much as anyone i have seen.

@leif77 why do people always tend to label any kind of pop music as "shit"? even Bob Dylan was labeled as pop back in the old days, today he's a legend. Ok, Kesha and Lady Gaga is shitty pop. But if you take john's acoustic "pop" music, they're actually very nice and well done. his chords progressions are totally different, based on jazz chords. that is one of the reasons it is not shitty pop.

@bouwmr He was playing blues long before he started his acoustic pop shit... and you can blame John Cruz for the look of his strat... he just wanted one without any paint on it so he made a brand new strat and then had John Cruz at the custom shop age it for him... I get what you're saying about the voice and the ego and I get your opinion but he is a bluesman at heart... Stevie Ray Vaughan is the reason he picked up a guitar in the first place...

@BryceShuster I saw it advertised on Eric Claptons website. Im not sure I want it yet tho...heard some of Jeff Becks playing, didnt wow me like the first two shows of Crossroads on dvds. I have both...they are fanominal....is that spelled right? hmmm.

will all of you haters shut up. Mayer is a bluesman by soul. Read up on his roots and listen to his blues interviews. It doesn't matter what background you come from. If you do the blues justice, you've done the blues justice.

he's a gifted guitar player and a fine showman for sure but for some reason i just cant like him, i have tried but i just cant.
maybe it is his voice (yes he can sing, i just dont like the sound of his voice.
maybe it is his wannabe number one strat.
maybe it is because he's not a bluesman by heart but by choice.
maybe it is his big ego.
anyway, in general his music can be pleasant to listen to, only i dont get the warm feeling as when i hear bb, clapton, srv, buddy and many more.
