  • Holy crap man.... cherenkov radiation..... that's the beauty of protons there...

  • Actually, Cherenkov radiation is caused by ELECTRONS that move faster than light in water for a short time.

  • Sorry about that goof there, and Thanks for the correction !

Still, it's beautiful: something mover faster than light. Even though it's in water and not a vacuum, it's still beautiful.

  • @melkor6666 In this case the Cherenkov radiation is from beta decay of the fission products, yes, but in general one can get Cherenkov radiation from any sufficiently high-energy charged particle (such as protons) in a dielectric medium.

  • @youngdones

    no,

  • @Iteban he means they move faster than the speed of light in water (light moves slower through water)

  • @melkor6666 get me out of this question, how de the electrons to move faster than light?

  • Is that an RBMK-1000 "chernobyl" type reactor?

  • Čerenkov radiation... Mesmerizing if anything in the world is. The first time I saw it, I just sat there watching the reactor pool. It's unlike any other light in the world...

I'm sorry, but not a thing you said made a damn bit of sense.

Regarding the use of a laser:

    1) You can't "cut" a laser beam...its light.

    2) Lasers are fairly useless under water as water tends to act as a lens.
