Okay so back out to the field but this time it flew!!! I had complete control and it did what I wanted it too. Although it still does want to stall when I reduce airspeed. Moving the CG even more will correct this I am sure. I already had moved it some this time and I could tell a very big difference on how it reacted in flight. So I am going in the correct direction with the CG.

Next I will reinforce them darn wings. I been putting it off since the beginning because I did not want to put a while lot of build since it is only a test model. But seems I am going to have to so I can continue my flight test correctly.

I do plan to get it flying perfect then I will remove that vertical stab and see how flies. I really want it to be able to fly without it with wings in X Pattern. I can deal with putting a transparent vertical that comes up for when wings are closed.

Okay but before I can do any of that I need to fix the reason it crashed. Once I got home I opened it up. I plugged my battery back up and the canard went into full down position and all the rest of the servos locked. I did not even have control of the motor either. It made a weird buzzing sound also.

I got to messing with it and the servos freed back up and it acted normal again. Only a few seconds later the canard went into full down and it locked up again. Weird. My ESC is rated for 7 servos max. I may be pushing it snce I am using all 7 and using those splitters. They may be having an effect on it. So I think I will end up putting an alternate battery for servos only and see if it corrects this problem.

If any of you guys have any ideas or seen this before please let me know. Any help would be great seeing I never had this issue at all before. Very weird

Anyways the X Wing is all put back together and fixed. The glue is drying right now matter fact. So I will make my changes and will try again this weekend!! I hope this will be my final flight test and all works out. Crossing fingers.

Thanks for watching!

  • Slit the wings and insert a long rod of carbon fibre or two in each of the wings.

  • @vanepico Hey vanepico thanks for the tip. This video is about 3 weekend behind now. I have now added carbon rodes to each of the wings to remove the flex and also moved the cg up more. So the x-wing is ready to go. 2 problems though. First is the wind will not let up so I have no had a chance at all to test. Second last weekend the wind let up for about 30 minutes. I got in hurry and was trying to make another video and hand launched. Big mistake! That was while reason for the dolly.

  • @vanepico I sliced my right index finger like cheese. It skinned the top of my finger off to meat only. I think we found the skin by our feet. It was see through. he bottom part of my finger had a flapper on it. I got into a hurry and got careless. Oops. On bright side X-wing is ready to go. My finger is healing pretty darn fast and I can now bend it. And I now made a PVC Catapult and will post video on that here soon. So I should be good to go now.

  • Great stuff man impressive work. It almost looked like a bird flapping its wings at one point cool vids great channel.

  • @flyby8906 Yeah I think the birds were jealous of it haha. As of now I have those flapping wings ready to go. I have a larger carbon rod going down them and I think my next flight will be my final. I hope. I moved thee CG fixed the electrical issue. And got those wings much stiffer now. It is just this darn windy and rainy weather thats keeping me. Next break I get I will be in air and making another video. Hopefully soon

  • Wow! This is an excellent project!

But yeah, you really need to support those wings with some carbon rods.

Are you going to use clear plastic on the canards later on? If they are seethrough it would look even more like the movie :D

Just subscribed - can't wait to see the follow up!

  • @Bing80 Hey thank you for the sub! I agree I need more carbon rods in the wings. I just have one per wing so few more should do the trick. And as for the canard yes it will be transparent. It is just foam for now since I am just testing out what works and how it reacts.

I will do it like I did the wings on my Tie Interceptor if you seen the video. In the end on my final version I will do my best to make it look like the real thing. Hopefully I can get started on it here soon.
