  • to prove the point i will list a set off games that no 48k speccy could do or not near the same standard, the 64k is no advantage to spectrums 48k, since the c64 was less efficent with memory compared with a spectrum.

    1. creatures 2

    2. speedball 2

    3. shadow of the beast

    4..mayhem in monster land

the difference the 128k models made can be clearly seen in harddrivin on the amstard

the 64k model having no sound, switching to a 128k, sound is there as well as a speed increase and tighter controls

  • many say that since the speccy cpu is clocked at 3mhz and the c64 is 1mhz that the spectrum is faster.

thats not true, but i can see why people suggest it.

the standard 48k has no dedicated video chip or sound chip so it's cpu has to take on all the load, the c64's cpu dosent

meaning the real world speed performance is more down to how good the programmers is

the 128k models are different they were far more succesful than the amstrad 6128 and the c128, so making a fair comparission is harder

  • love the spectrum for what it is, the best budget built to be as cheap as possible and accessible machine, that started many bedroom programmers off in the games industry.

    its legacy is untouchable.

i wish ex speccy owners would stop trying to claim it's the best hardware, because it was outclassed by everything else hardware wise. (msx, amstrad, commodore, atari 800)

    but everything else cost more.

got a +2a to play games like harddrivin etc where only the extra memory gives the speccy the lead

  • think people must be blind and deaf if they think the speccy, is better.

& im not a fanboy of the c64.

my computer back in the day was a msx.

people say the c64 is blocky, thats because most c64 games are using more colors on screen.

limit it to the bad color pallete of a spectrum and a c64 can do just as well, their is no contest on sound.

only advantage came with the 128k +2's in games like hard drivin, but thats not comparing like with like, unfortunatly the c128 wasn't a big enough seller

  • My leg hurts

  • @Retroid64 - Yeah and Turbo Esprit :P

  • I had a speccy and my parents had a c64 at the time. I liked them both but my heart was always drawn towards the spectrum. I now have a 360. I sit there and hapily play mw3 with it's lovely hd graphics and special effects. But there is something missing which makes it not as enjoyable to play as a spectrum game. Does anyone else feel the same?

  • @mizmera lol

  • Jeez so many insecure spectrum fanboys here, Sorry to break your bubble but there's no competition. I'm secure in the fact the C64 was the superior machine. Let's compare games which pushed the envelope on the C64 and compare them shall we? Turrican, need I say more?

  • @mtoner1971 - Yeah like Turbo Esprit. The graphics on the C64 with no clashes was so awesome... IT WAS CRAP!!!
