check out this link for a great description of autopoiesis. He explains why we cannot speak of inputs and outputs when we are dealing with a biological nervous system. http://ibravn.blogspot.com/2006/05/autopoiesis-for-beginners.html

  • Actually the sensory organs only perceive the external world, they actually do acquire information, but you're right that it doesn't construct our vision of reality. For example, we perceive things differently amongst other animals in the aspect of color of things. It is the brain which stores the information, and the brains neural activities create the mind, and the mind systematically arranges energy in a way to reason and use logic. Through reasond and logic reality coems to us.

  • Scientific determinism has been proven false since the 20th century, and in fact even in classical mechanics there were examples were determinism failed, for example the globe of indeterminancy. Furthermore, chaost theory proves all this random metaphysical nonsense wrong.

The real important question is if that mind can rise above its genetic and enviormental sorroundings. We are affected by our enviorment, but free to some degree, thank you for this video.

  • There is a really good argument I think in the form of a lecture out there, that compares us to a being inside a box with no knowledge as to what is going on outside of us. I'll look around for it and link you. I think you'll enjoy it.

  • yeah it's about perception and cousciousness but delves into god

  • Hi, great stuff. We are more complex versions of protobionts, and our consciousness, with it's understanding as the membrane, it's memory as the energy store, and perceived unities as the filtered 'food' is a bio-electric model of a cell. Maybe I will post a response to this, but I prefer to discuss on a forum (easier for refernce).

  • you have some really thoughtful ideas, love watching your vids!!

  • Good video. Very interesting. Especially the part of the way the eyes perceive colors. It's usually something most of us may take for granted, but really if we didn't have our brains to help us perceive colors, we may not be able to see color at all or experience the world the way we do. Thanks for sharing. :)

  • smoooth.
