When I click on edit on my mac then the only thing that comes up is copy and select special characters..HELP!

@D4mpich Yes the link does work!!! I just tried it. You need to scroll down the page. There are two versions to download - the layerfx.scm or the layerfx.py - you need to install python to use the .py version - the .scm version works without python.

@classicsonic77 I already put the instructions for Mac users in the annotations. Just use Edit > Clear.

I don't know how to save the picture, I click save, but it doesn't come out as a picture, just a file. Help?

@ciaradestineesurf - If you save an image in GIMP, it saves it in GIMPs own XCF format by default. If you want a jpeg or a png you need to click File > Save As > give it a new file name, choose the file type from the drop down (such as jpeg, png, gif). But remember you should always save the XCF if you want to edit again later as it preserves all layers, and text layers intact.
