  • what kind of porcelain do you use?

and why not use the Giffin Grip for trimming pots? it's a whole lot faster than clay around the edge.

  • I use mostly a 6-tile domestic porcelain made by East Bay Clay in Richmond, California. I also use an English porcelain when I am in Michigan.

My teacher in Japan always threw a chuck when he was producing a series . It was much faster than a Giffen Grip. I find knocking to center ( a skill my teacher made me learn) is fast enough. In some ways each new tool eliminates a skill to the point of no need to learn your craft to be a craftsman. At a certain point is it no longer hand made?. .
