Significant progress has been made in Texas on the proposed Interstate 69 corridor, according to Teclo Garcia, the City of McAllen's Director of Government Affairs.
Garcia, who also represents McAllen on a Texas Department of Transportation committee that welcomes feedback from the public on the proposed route, interviewed recently with the McAllen Cable Network.
The proposed route includes US 281, the third busiest NAFTA highway in Texas. Four major projects along US 281, he said, have either been completed, are under construction or are being planned for construction.
· In Falfurrias, contractors are in the process of constructing 5 overpasses.
· An overpass and other improvements have been completed, in the small community of Ben Bolt.
· In George West, an overpass and other improvements are under construction at US 59, near Interstate 37.
· A relief route is also planned in the community of Premont, to bypass a slowdown through the business district.
The goal of all of these projects is to create a traffic route without stops.
